News : B. Hepworth & Co. donate new wiper for Launch Vehicle
After many years of suffering poor visibility through the front windscreen of our primary launch vehicle due to its windscreen wiper failing on a regular basis, Southport Lifeboat can at long last literally look forward to future launches following the donation of a heavy duty marine window wiper system.
B. Hepworth & Co. were contacted by Southport Lifeboat in the hope that they may suggest what we could do to improve the reliability of the windscreen wipers we have fitted to the launch vehicle.
After a brief discussion it was quickly realised that our current system was not up to the job and could not cope with the environment that it had to work in.
Jonathan Eddy (CEO of B. Hepworth & Co.), a yacht owner himself was fully aware of the type of conditions that we face during the launch and recovery operations of the lifeboat and was able to suggest a suitable replacement system.
The system suggested was a 50NM medium /heavy duty motor connected to a P615 (24") pantograph arm fitted with a 26" wiper blade.
This arrangement ensures that the greatest area of windscreen will be cleared by the wiper blade giving a clearer view of the launch route ahead.
As a very kind and generous gesture, Jonathan Eddy took the decision to donate the entire system to Southport Lifeboat free of charge. Southport Lifeboat Coxswains, crew and supporters would like to take this opportunity to thank him and all the staff at B. Hepworth & Co. for their help and generosity.
