News : Local solicitors raise £7,000 for the Southport Lifeboat
Four firms of Southport solicitors have helped to raise £7,000 for the Southport Lifeboat by donating their will writing fees to the charity.
Margaret Collins of Brighouses, Valerie Hulton, Wendy Tyson and Geoff Cottrell of Cockshot Peck Lewis, John Lloyd of Mawdsleys and Richard Jacklin, Sue Greer and Elizabeth Foggin of Richard Jacklin and Co, all took part in the month long event.
They all participate annually in WillAid, which supports nine national charities each November, however they all generously agreed to support the Southport Lifeboat throughout March in a similar scheme.
Nick Porter, a Coxswain of the Southport Lifeboat said; ‘We would like to thank everyone who was involved in raising funds for us.
‘A big thank you must go out to each of the solicitors who donated their time for free and to everyone who took part by having their will written.
‘The current total is £6993.75, but we are still waiting on a couple more to be finalised, so the final total will be well over £7000. We never expected a response quite like this, it is fantastic.’
The scheme ran between the 1st and 31st March and the funds raised will go towards building a new Lifeboat house, to replace the existing building which is over 125 years old.
‘Everyone involved with the running of the lifeboat is a volunteer, so every penny raised will be used towards building a new lifeboat house for the town.’
