News : New launch vehicle
After many months of searching we have finally found and purchased a new tractor ready to convert into our latest launch vehicle. The tractor is hardly new, it's a 1974 Muir Hill 121 and was built to last which can be witnessed by looking at the photo below. We will now start the meticulous process of waterproofing and protecting to ensure that it can cope with all that nature can throw during its lifeboat launch and recovery duties. In addition to this work, the tractor will also be fitted with VHF communication and GPS navigation equipment as already fitted to our existing launch vehicle.
More pictures of the Muir Hill can be found on the dedicated Southport Facebook page by following this link:
The picture of our exisitng launch vehicle (which is currently undergoing maintenance and overhaul) is shown below as an illustration of how deep we have to go to in order to launch and recover our lifeboat. This shows the need for waterproofing our new tractor especially on wild and stormy nights.
